4G vs 5G Signal Booster
Understand the difference between 4G and 5G booster kits before you buy.
Short answer
4G and 5G boosters support different network bands and use cases, so the best choice is determined by the signal available outside and the frequencies your network uses. A 5G kit is not automatically better if the needed 5G band is not available at your location.
Compare the connection you actually use
Check the network and service at the address, then repeat tests outdoors and in the rooms where reception fails. A handset may use different services or frequencies by location. Record the result and ask the operator what information it can provide for the site.
When comparing a 4G-only listing with a claimed 5G model, request a manufacturer's specification for the exact model and radio standard. Verify that the document identifies supported frequencies and intended use. A shared frequency number does not establish that equipment supports a particular technology.
If the main problem is calls and reliable broadband is available, check whether Wi-Fi Calling is supported by your operator and phone. For other options see the existing 4G and 5G guide and installation guide.
Frequently asked questions
Does a 4G repeater automatically support 5G?
No. The exact model documentation must state the supported radio services and frequencies.
Does a 5G label prove compatibility with my network?
No. Check the exact device, operator, service and frequencies at your address.
Can 4G and 5G use different frequencies?
Yes. The service and band depend on the network and location, so verify the actual connection rather than relying on a generic label.
Can a repeater improve service where no signal exists?
No. It cannot create a source signal.
What should I ask a seller?
Request the model-specific specification and evidence addressing the current Ofcom requirements and the intended setup.
